Dyslexia in schools? (gasp)
Having worked in the schools for a number of years, I remember being surprised at not knowing a single child with dyslexia. Research suggests that approximately 5-15% of the population is dyslexic, yet not 1 child out of over 900 kids is dyslexic?
It really didn't register with me how odd that was. Once I went through my intensive year-long Orton-Gillingham training, literacy became my passion. And I learned just how prevalent the issue is - both dyslexia (and other reading difficulties) and the lack of identification and more importantly, effective intervention.
